Raffi’s Message to Beluga Grads

This is your friend Raffi, singing a new song, dreaming a big dream that very much needs you.

To you who grew up singing “Baby Beluga”, “This Little Light”, “All I Really Need”: it’s time to make that music come alive with power—the power of your grown-up lives.

In these turbulent times, we are called upon to be fully present. We are called to awaken to our full humanity, to play our unique part in creating a culture of peace in the world.

In the spirit of a Raffi-BG reunion, I wrote a new beluga verse/chorus for Baby Beluga:

“Now you've grown and you're on your way,
Making waves in the boundless bay,
With your shining light and your dreams alive
For the young you'll have one day.
Grown-up beluga, grown-up beluga,
Sing a song of peace, sing with all your friends,
We need to hear you!”

The 2006 “Raffi Renaissance” is in full swing with a new book and CD. I do hope you access the Child Honouring anthology’s treasure house of wisdom as expressed by eminent thinkers of our time. Please read, reflect & act on the contents.

I also hope you listen to my new CD: Resisto Dancing is for BGs, educators, decision makers… This is Raffi as you’ve never heard before. New songs and rhythms, a ‘hip hope’ spirit of possibility—Compassion Revolution! Please tell your pod-pals. Spread the word.

Remember: You are neither alone, nor a drop in the ocean.

You are the ripple, the wave, the gathering swell at a defining moment in human history. The spirit of King and Gandhi are very much with us in this age: in the likes of Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama, Jane Goodall, Arundati Roy, Howard Zinn, Naomi Klein, Desmond Tutu, Louise Arbour, Stephen Lewis, and Wangari Matthai, David Korten, Riane Eisler and many more. We must become the change we seek in the world, Gandhi said. Let's get on it!

We turn this world around with every organic cotton or hemp shirt worn, acre of farmland converted to organics, every restaurant devoted to local foods, and every family devoting a portion of its food bill to buying organic; every vote for pro-child pro-family policies, every eco-preneur chasing a triple-bottom-line dream.

We turn this world around with every call, fax or email to an elected official praising a sustainable action or supporting change; every publisher, NGO, and government that switches to chlorine-free paper; every material designer who opts for non-toxic threads and dyes; every municipality that votes to ban pesticides; every school greening its playground; every cop or politician who stands up to corruption, every act of personal integrity…

So let’s shake those sillies out. Keep a clear head and make the most positive waves possible! Belugas swim in pods… hmm, why not BG pods? and podcasting, podsinging and pod-pals. To pod it another way, podruple your power!

I hope you accept my invitation to play your part in the Compassion Revolution.

“Turn turn turn, turn this world around,
For the children, turn this world around.”
