Letters To Raffi

From Toronto, ON...

I want to tell you how much your music has meant to me, since I was very young. Yours is the first music I remember hearing, and it is the 'soundtrack' to my childhood. Being that my name is Robin, I took particular delight in the song "Robin in the Rain"; my mother reports that I would go out in the rain, singing this song and changing all the pronouns to "me" and "my" (ie: Digging for my dinner with my long, strong beak). Now that I am older, I can more fully appreciate that your music, while age-appropriate, was never condescending, and was musically very…elevated (not complex, but layered and well-composed, if you understand what I mean).

Now I am 36, and have children of my own. My daughter will be 4 in August. She loves your music too; I have gotten to re-experience the songs of my childhood through her, and she loves them just as much as I did. I hear her singing it to herself when she think I'm not listening (I get in trouble if she catches me listening to her!)

I am sure you get millions of requests like this, but if you would ever consider performing for children again, I would be so very grateful. I went to one of your concerts in Fredericton, N.B. at the Playhouse, when I was about 4 or 5. You can tell it meant a lot to me then, as I actually remember seeing you on stage. I would love to be able to bring my daughter to one of your concerts, and in truth I would come to see you anyway, for myself.

I wish you all the best in the future, and thank you for taking the time to read this.

Robin E. Leighton
