Parents’ Choice honours Let’s Play

Let’s Play

Raffi’s latest children’s album, Let’s Play!, has topped the Parents’ Choice list of the best 25 children's albums of the last 25 years.

Let’s Play! is at the top of the Parents’ Choice Top 25 of 25 Years list. Parents’ Choice, an independent not-for-profit organization dedicated to equipping parents with information about the best children’s products on the market, set out to pick the Top 25 Books, Audio, Toys and Software of the past 25 years. Parents, teachers, librarians and children were all consulted to select the best in each category.

Lynne Dalton Heffley, the author of the Parents’ Choice list, remarked on the immense technological changes in the audio category as the product has changed from vinyl to cassette to CD. What has not changed, since Parents’ Choice began rating children’s audio in 1978, is what makes the music great: The best children’s audio, no matter how varied in style, combines creative and artistic excellence with content that respects a child’s intelligence, emotional growth and humanity.

Another aspect that has not changed is Raffi’s continual dedication to children’s music. According to Parents’ Choice, Raffi was the first “superstar” in the industry, opening the door for other performers. Now, Raffi’s 2002 children’s release Let’s Play is number one in the children’s audio category. They state, “this ‘comeback’ album, the first new recording in seven years, is both vintage Raffi—gentle, tender and playful—and an evocative reflection of his personal growth and years of commitment to the well-being of children.”

Let’s Play was released in 2003 and has received many accolades including a 2003 Juno nomination, the Parent’s Choice Gold Award, the NAPPA Award and the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award.
