Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA hosts a unique musical conversation with Raffi. (April 2005)
On April 12, 2005, Raffi spoke and sang to students of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.
In his first U.S. appearance since 2003, Raffi reflected on an evolving career, his changing music and the philosophy called Child Honouring, which has become both his passion and his life’s work.
Over the years, Raffi has evolved from singing songs for children and their parents to writing new music for the young adults who grew up on his tunes, “Beluga Grads,” as he calls them. He hopes the young adults who once enjoyed his children’s music will now be inspired to create a world that is truly fit for everyone.
Says Raffi on how his career has changed: “In my work as a children’s troubadour, I wrote and recorded songs with life-affirming imagery, with a positive outlook. And these days, I still write and record, but new songs for older audiences, young people in their 20s, songs that still celebrate life and the global family.”
Raffi has long been an icon in children’s music. As the West’s best-known children’s troubadour, he has given countless concerts to packed houses and sold millions of albums, books, and videos across Canada and the U.S. The Washington Post called Raffi “the most popular children’s singer in the English-speaking world.” He is recognized and respected by an estimated 80 million fans, and known for his uncommon integrity and for treating children with dignity and respect.
