Child Honouring bi-lateral book & CD launch draws raves
Raffi in Pittsburgh and Victoria BC to kick things off.
June 9 and 10 at Pittsburgh’s Point Park University, Dr Sharna Olfman, co-editor of Child Honoring: How to Turn This World Around, presided over the 6th annual Childhood & Society Symposium whose theme this year was Child Honoring.
Dr. Olfman welcomed co-editor and keynote presenter Raffi Cavoukian, as well as anthology contributors Joan Almon, director of the Alliance for Childhood, biologist and author Sandra Steingraber, child advocate and author Susan Linn, and author/filmmaker Joel Bakan. Engaging talks and panel discussions were capped by Raffi’s stirring presentation of the Child Honoring book and cd, a program which lifted the assembled off their feet.
June 15 at the University of Victoria’s Faculty of Education, Child Honouring and Resisto Dancing got their Canadian launch to audience raves. Six children from the Kidspower Chorus opened with two songs in honour of the evening.
In his introduction, outgoing Dean Budd Hall cited the brilliant scholarship of Sharna Olfman, psychology professor and anthology co-editor. He then welcomed Raffi, acknowledging among his talents the intellectual who has emerged to bring forward an important philosophy. Raffi was at his speaking, singing and dancing best, and signed books and CDs for a long time afterwards.
